CURWENSVILLE — The three-pronged attack that got Moshannon Valley off to a 2-0 start carried the Black Knights to a 57-25 win over Curwensville in Moshannon Valley League boys basketball action on the Patton Hall hardwood Friday night.
Jake Murawksi, one of five senior lettermen, pierced the Golden Tide defense for 23 points to boost his average to an even 20 while Connor Holobinko and Curtis Neff contributed 16 and 13, respectively.
“They had two really good, strong ballhandlers (Murawski and Neff) that got to the basket and created a lot of opportunities for them,” Curwensville coach Matt Wassil said. “We weren’t stopping their drives quick enough.
Murawski propelled Mo Valley to a 13-4 lead in the first eight minutes with 12 points, including seven free throws without a miss.
“He was just putting the ball on the floor and we weren’t stopping the drive quick enough,” Wassil said. “We were too late with our help defense, which was causing fouls.”
In the third quarter, the Black Knights ballooned their 22-11 halftime advantage to 43-16 with Murawski and Neff netting seven points apiece.
“We kind of had a breakdown coming out of the locker room and just didn’t defend well,” Wassil said. “They were getting too many easy shots.”
Noah Von Gunden’s seven points topped the Golden Tide.
Curwensville (0-3) will wrap up its pre-holiday slate with an MVL home game against Glendale Wednesday.
Christian Bakaysa scored 13 points paced the Golden Tide junior varsity to a 33-28 win.
