September is Marriage Health Month

Shannon Kelly, Children’s Aid Society

A happy, healthy marriage takes work! A lot of work! But the payoff is worth it! Research shows that when marriages are healthy, just about everyone benefits: adults, children and communities.

There are clear benefits for adults. Married people, on average, are happier, healthier, have lower stress levels and live longer.

Children in families where adults are in a healthy, stable marriage, on average, are more likely to perform better in school, have fewer emotional and behavioral problems and stay in school.

Communities benefit because adults in healthy marriages are more likely to be homeowners, to be involved in their communities (schools, churches) and to offer volunteer time to support community-strengthening activities.

Let Real Relationships of Children’s Aid Society teach you skills to help make your marriage less work and the best that it can be.

Real Relationships is a marriage and relationship education program funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service Administration for Children and Families, Office of Family Assistance.

Its goal is to help families build strong relationships to support the well-being of their children. The program offers free weekend retreats to married couples.

Couples who participate in the program will enjoy quality time with their spouse, learn ways to reduce stress, to communicate better, to fight less and how to keep the fun and friendship in their marriage forever.

Real Relationships offers weekend couple retreats in Clearfield County and the eight surrounding counties.

Weekend retreats are held over two days on a Friday evening and during the day Saturday. Enjoy all meals, an overnight hotel stay and $25 gift card at no cost! Join us Sept. 16-17 in Clearfield.

Not married, but want to strengthen your relationship too? No problem! Real Relationships offers weekly classes and workshops for individuals and couples not married, too! Join us Sept. 24 in Clearfield from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Participants receive all meals and a $25 gift card at no cost! Or contact us for additional upcoming classes, workshops and retreats.
