Amy Schumer may be friends with Kurt Metzger, but she does not endorse his recent controversial comments.
Metzger, who has written for “Inside Amy Schumer,” has been embroiled in an online battle regarding comments he’s made about women and sexual assault.
“Kurt’s my friend, I love him,” Schumer said during an appearance Thursday night on “Charlie Rose.” “I’m not on Facebook so I don’t read his crazy rants. He gets something from going after people, making them mad. That is not representative of me at all.”
Schumer was on the show to promote her new biography, “The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo.”
The “Trainwreck” star told Rose she would rather the conversation be on the problem of rape and not Metzger’s inflammatory comments.
“He’s the problem, no question, but the focus is on him rather than on what the real main problem is,” Schumer said.
Telling Rose that she had been a victim of sexual assault in the past, the actress said she encourages women to share their stories so men can better understand.
“People have different understandings of what sexual assault is, what rape is,” she told Rose. “Let’s all get on the same page so that it happens less.”
Earlier in the week she stirred speculation her show would not be returning for a fifth season when she disavowed a working relationship with Metzger.
“Kurt does not work for me,” Schumer tweeted. “He is not a writer on my show. Please stop asking me about it. His words are not mine.”
Schumer later clarified that her Comedy Central show was merely on hiatus as she pursues other projects.
