CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Solid Waste Authority (CCSWA) will host a one-day collection event Saturday, Aug. 27 for residents to properly dispose of electronics.
The collection is being held to help bring relief to residents from the Covered Device Recycling Act that has inadvertently “created a disposal crisis,” said CCSWA Director Jodi Brennan.
Residents must pre-register and services do require payment of a fee based upon the weight of their item(s). The fee will be 45 cents per pound for televisions, monitors, computer towers and peripherals.
The fee will be 25 cents per pound for all other electronic waste. However, it will be $6.35 per pound for any mercury-containing devices and 90 cents per pound for all other household hazardous waste.
Payment will be due upon receipt of the materials, said Brennan.
Acceptable electronic materials will include televisions and monitors, computer towers and peripherals (keyboards, mice and speakers), printers, copiers, scanners and fax machines and audio, stereo and video equipment.
Acceptable household hazardous waste will include oil-based paints and stains, paint thinners, household cleaners, degreasers and car care products, pesticides, pool chemicals, mercury-containing devices, fluorescent lamps and batteries.
To participate, please contact CCSWA’s recycler ECS&R to pre-register at 1-866-815-0016 or online at www.ecsr.net. From the Web site, please select the “collection events” tab at the top of the page.
