FALLS CREEK- The annual Goodwill Industries of North Central Pennsylvania golf fundraiser, the “Grow the Green Golf Classic,” will be held Aug. 15 at the Beechwoods Golf Course in Falls Creek.
All of the proceeds will benefit the Goodwill Greenhouse “Seeding Success” Small Business Training Program.
The Goodwill Greenhouse “Seeding Success” training program teaches individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities how to run a small, agricultural business from seed to sale.
Last year’s fundraiser allowed the program to expand and to include a large-hoop greenhouse, new garden beds and new program participants.
This spring and summer, program participants have been busy planting and selling what they’ve grown.
Goodwill is currently harvesting the first of the tomatoes, zucchini, beans, peppers, sweet corn and cucumbers and caring for the mums they planted in July. In 2017, Goodwill plans to grow the program even further.
“You can help by participating in this year’s annual Golf Tournament, the Grow the Green Golf Classic. All the proceeds directly benefit the “Seeding Success” training program,” says Ray Donati, president and chief executive officer of Goodwill Industries of North Central Pennsylvania.
“Our goal is to expand the program, not just to sell more plants and produce. There is such a great interest in being part of the program, we want to get more and more individuals involved as it grows.”
The Grow the Green Golf Classic is Aug. 15 at the Beechwoods Golf Club in Falls Creek. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. and the shot gun start is at 12:30 p.m., with the awards dinner immediately to follow.
The cost is $100 for an individual, $400 for a team and $200 to be a tee sponsor. Lunch, snacks and beverages will be provided. Skill prizes, door prizes, green fees, a cart and the awards dinner are all included with your participation.
