Committee Gears Up for Kylertown Community Festival, Parade

KYLERTOWN – Members of the Kylertown Community Association are gearing up for a day of fun at the Kylertown Community Festival and parade to be held on Aug. 13.

Everyone is welcome to attend this family-friendly event. It will be the second year for the celebration to kick off with an old-fashioned parade.

The parade will step off at 10 a.m. and will assemble at the Kylertown Presbyterian Cemetery, located opposite the shopping plaza on Rolling Stone Road.

The route will progress from the cemetery down Rolling Stone Road and turn left at Second Street. It will follow Second Street to Kyler Lane, where it will turn right and end at the Kylertown athletic fields.

Organizers are expecting 13, different fire companies to be represented, as well as numerous organizations, politicians and more to march in the parade.

If your organization would like to participate in the parade, please contact the parade chairman Tom Shirey at 814-857-1820.

Immediately following the parade, there will be the Kylertown Community Festival at the athletic fields. There will be a concession stand, live music, Chinese auction, children’s games, flea market and more.

For those who are interested in competing in the pie-baking contest, entries are due at the athletic field picnic pavilion by 9 a.m.

Judging will be conducted starting at 9:30 a.m. There will also be a Watermelon and pie-eating contest for the more competitive souls.

In addition, the Kylertown Presbyterian Church will be open to the public from 12 p.m. – 3 p.m.

Representatives of the Kylertown Presbyterian Centenary Association, the group that maintains the church building, will be on hand to answer questions and give tours.

Although regular church services are no longer offered in Kylertown, this is the last remaining church building in town. “The festival day will be a rare opportunity to take a peek inside the church building,” organizers said.

The Kylertown Community Association uses the funds raised from the festival for a variety of community projects within Kylertown.

The association helps maintain the Kylertown athletic fields, which is home to the Kylertown Little League Baseball program.

The funds raised directly affect the association’s ability to maintain and make improvements to the facilities.
