CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Area School Board of Directors approved the lowest bid for the construction of a maintenance garage at its combined committee and board meeting on Monday night.
The district received four bids with the lowest bid coming from Dobson Construction in the amount of $337, 625 for a steel building to be constructed at the Clearfield Area Junior-Senior High School campus.
The bid from Dobson Construction received board approval by a 6-1 vote. Board members Larry Putt, Phil Carr, Jennifer Hughes, Tim Morgan, Randy Pataky and Susan Mikesell all voted in favor. Board member Gail Ralston cast the lone opposing vote.
When asked after the meeting, Ralston said she felt this figure was better than the original cost estimates. However, she felt the district could have continued to make tweaks, as most local residents don’t have garages like in the district’s plans.
Additionally, the board unanimously approved the fieldhouse roofing project at prevailing wage to Ben Timko/768-ROOF in the amount of $33,240. It is for the labor and debris removal only, according to board documents.
Under the same motion, the board also approved the material purchase for the fieldhouse roofing project from Lezzer Lumber. The materials purchase for the roofing project is not to exceed $7,500.
It had to be done by a GAF-certified contractor. “The state permitted kind of a different situation there,” explained Superintendent Terry Struble. “We’re on litigation settlement with shingles from Girard-Goshen, swapping for materials and finding a GAF-certified person.”
The fieldhouse roofing project was approved unanimously, 7-0, by the board members who were present at the meeting. Board members Mary Anne Jackson and Dr. Michael Spencer were absent from the meeting.
