British MP Jo Cox is in a critical condition after being attacked in her constituency of Batley and Spen on Thursday, according to West Yorkshire police and the office of a fellow member of Parliament.
Police have arrested a 52-year-old man in connection with an attack, the police statement said.
“At 12:53 today, police were called to a report of an incident on Market Street, Birstall, where a woman in her 40s had suffered serious injuries and is in a critical condition,” said the statement.
The office of fellow Labour MP John Mann confirmed it was Cox who was attacked.
A man nearby also suffered slight injuries, the police statement said.
