Wozniak Comments on Grants Awarded for Senior Centers in Clearfield, Bedford Counties

HARRISBURG – A senior center in Clearfield and two centers in Bedford County have been awarded combined grants in excess of $50,000 by the Pennsylvania Department of Aging, according to state Sen. John N. Wozniak (D-Cambria/Bedford/Clearfield).

“The financial support from the state is an important resource for local senior centers,” Wozniak said.  “The grants will help the centers continue to provide programming and assist in meeting the needs of seniors from our region.”

The department is providing a $36,208 grant for the Clearfield Center for Active Living in Clearfield County.  In Bedford County, the Bedford Area Senior Center is in line to receive a grant of $11,142 while $5,000 has been earmarked for the Chaneysville Senior Center.

The grants can be used to aid modernization efforts in addition to boosting technology and innovative programming at the centers.  Senior centers offer resources for older citizens and host programs and services, plus social and recreational activities.

All told, 43 senior centers across Pennsylvania received more than $2 million total in this funding round.
