Mexican soccer star Alan Pulido rescued after being kidnapped

Mexican footballer Alan Pulido, who was kidnapped Saturday night, has been rescued by Mexican authorities and is safe, according to a statement from the local Tamaulipas government.

“He is alive and well,” the statement said.

Pulido, a striker for Greece’s Olympiacos club who has also played in the past for Mexico’s national team, was kidnapped Saturday night in Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas state.

He was rescued shortly before midnight Sunday in “a city operation in conjunction with the federal government,” according to the statement.

Tamaulipas Governor Egidio Torre Cantú had visited the player, and said he was safe, the statement read.

“Pulido is currently being medically evaluated and more details on the rescue operation will be sent out later,” it said.
