BROCKWAY – The Curwensville Lady Tide high school girls softball team broke a two-game losing streak on Tuesday afternoon in Brockway, beating the Lady Rovers by a score of 7-2, thanks to a five-run fifth inning.
The Lady Tide had lost to Brockway in Curwensville earlier this season, 5-1.
Brockway took the first lead of the game by scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth and never crossed home plate again.
Curwensville took control of the contest by scoring five runs in the top half of the fifth inning.
Madison Bumbarger started the fifth with a single and scored all the way from first base after Kayli Sedgwick hit a grounder to third base only to have the Lady Rovers throw the ball over the head of their first baseman.
Camryn Richards then doubled to right field that scored pinch runner Olivia McGarry.
Another error by the Lady Rovers allowed Kaylee Harnett to reach first base as Richards raced home with Curwensville’s third run.
Tide pitcher Rylee Young singled up the middle, which brought home Richards, and later scored the final run of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Haley McGarry.
The Lady Tide added two more runs in the seventh on its way to win number 10.
Richards had her best day of the season with three hits, including the double in the fifth stanza.
Young helped her own cause with two hits on the day.
Carlee Hidinger had two base hits for the Lady Rovers and Kaitlyn Morelli added a double.
The Lady Tide (10-9) are home on Thursday for its final regular season game against Elk County Catholic at 4:15 pm. The game is also Senior Night for the Curwensville squad.
Back on April 6 the Lady Tide beat the Lady Crusaders in St. Marys, 10-6.
