Collins Wins Discus at West Central Coaches Invitational

ALTOONA – Junior Matt Collins continued his hot streak in the discus, earning Clearfield’s lone first place finish at the West Central Coaches Invitational at Mansion Park in Altoona on Friday evening.

Collins tossed the disc 158 feet and three inches to win the meet by over 10 feet.

Bison mentor John Jacob summarized the meet this way, “We had some great performances against some of the best competition in the state at the Western Coaches Meet in Altoona on Friday night.  Matt Collins led the way with first place in the Boys AAA discus.  Matt had another consistent night beating his nearest competition by over 10 feett.  This makes his third consecutive victory in this championship meet.  We are looking forward to see how Matt does at the District 9 Championship meet and the PIAA State Meet.  I know these past couple of meets have given Matt a lot of confidence heading into the last part of the season.

“Senior Rachel Glenny added a third place in the 300 meter hurdles and narrowly missed out on second place.  Rachel had a great race and came away with a personal best time.  She has been working extremely hard the whole year and it is really starting to pay off for her and her teammates.  Rachel also had an impressive leg in the 4×400 relay as the team of Madison Jones, Katrina Spencer and Macy Forrest combined for  a fourth place finish and their best time of the season.  Their time and place puts them in the hunt for a district title in two weeks. Madison Jones also placed in the 200 meter with a season best time of 28.01.  Not to be outdone, the boy’s 4×400 relay team of Seth Caldwell, Bront Strickland, Spencer Graham and Cody Shaw also had their best time and combined for a seventh place finish.  The boys are also sitting in a nice position and for a chance at a district title.

“Junior distance runner Kyle Biancuzzo had a great night in the 3200 improving his time by 10 seconds to place seventh.  Kyle’s time and place also have him sitting in position for a chance at a district title.

“Although they didn’t place many of our younger kids came away with personal best times.”

The Bison squads will host DuBois on Thursday in their final regular season tune-up before the District 9 Championships the following week.
