MARTINSBURG — For the third time in four days, the Clearfield Area High School softball team was unable to generate any offense and bowed to Central, 11-0, in a Mountain League softball game called in the bottom of the fourth inning because of lightning and heavy rains Friday.
The Bison had only two singles off of Lady Dragon freshman Dylan Claycomb, who struck out five and walked one.
Clearfield dipped to 2-6 in the league and 3-6 overall.
Maddi Metzler, another freshman, drove in three runs with a double and a triple to pace Central’s 11-hit attack, while Darby Boyles and Jenna Berzansky had pairs of hits and RBIs apiece.
Boyles’ run-scoring single and Metzler’s two-run double put the Scarlet Dragons ahead 3-0 in the first inning, and they pushed across six runs, all unearned because of two Lady Bison errors, against starter Raeleigh Redden and reliever Erica Hanes in the second.
The Scarlet Dragons, 5-3 in the league, tallied two more runs before the umpires halted play in the fourth frame.
The Lady Bison will be back on their home diamond Monday to go against Huntingdon.
