Glendale Shuts Down Lady Tide 5-0 In Moshannon Valley League Play

CURWENSVILLE – In a match-up of two 5-1 area softball powers on Tuesday afternoon it was the Lady Vikings of Glendale coming up with a big early season win over Curwensville, 5-0, in Moshannon Valley League (MVL) action.

Glendale is now 6-1 overall and 3-0 in MVL play while the Lady Tide drop to 5-2 on the year and 1-1 in league action.

The Lady Vikings would score all of the runs it would need for the win with three tallies in the top half of the third inning. Glendale then added two more in the seventh to complete the shutout victory behind freshman pitcher Alexis Mullhollen who surrendered just three singles while walking just one Lady Tide batter.

Lady Tide head coach Allen Leigey said afterwards, “Glendale is a good, decent team and they play small ball very well, as they did today. I know that down the line we will benefit from playing a team like Glendale and the knowledge we gained today.”

Makenzie Lukehart had three hits for the Lady Vikings while Ellie Leyo had two.

Lady Tide pitcher Rylee Young took the loss but once again did not walk a batter while striking out nine.

Young, in seven complete games, has not walked a batter since game one of this season when she intentionally walked two.

Leigey finished by saying, “We just didn’t have the sticks behind Rylee today, who I thought pitched another good game. But I was very pleased with our overall defense this afternoon, we just didn’t hit well.

The Lady Tide return to their home field on Thursday against Brockway with the starting time set for 4:15 pm.
