Bison’s Myers Named to All-State Class AAA Third Team

Clearfield Area High School junior Will Myers reaped another reward for his outstanding season on the hardwood by landing a berth on the 2015-16 Pennsylvania Sports Writers All-State team announced Saturday.

The 6-3 guard was named to the Class AAA third team by a panel of sports writers and media members, becoming only the third player in the history of the Bison basketball program to receive All-State recognition.

George Wise was named to the 1956-57 first team, and Fred Riley was selected for the 1967-68 second team.

Myers was named Mountain League Most Valuable Player after Clearfield won the championship for the first time and was selected to the All American Awards & Engraving D9Sports.com All-District 9 First Team.

Myers led the Bison (23-3) in scoring with 449 points, a 17.2 average, as he set a school record with 84 three-pointers.

In the third quarter of Clearfield’s 68-60 loss to eventual PIAA runner-up Mars in the first round of the state tournament, Myers scored his 1,000th point and will take a career total of 1,002 into his senior season.

He hit double figures in all but two games and netted 20 or more points 13 times.

Myers was a sharpshooter all over the court with 40 percent accuracy from three-point range, 54 percent inside the arc and 79 at the foul line.

He also averaged 6.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists for the Bison, who repeated as District 9 Class AAA champs and defeated District 8 representative Obama Academy 68-51 in a play-in game to reach the state tourney.

The only other District 9 cager to make the all-state team was Kane junior Andrew Bucheit, named to the third unit in Class AA.

Kody Trude of West Branch was one of three District 6 boys earning All-State laurels. He and Nathan Davis of Bellwood-Antis were named to the Class AA second team, and Rakwon Hinton of Ferndale was tabbed for the Class A third team. All are seniors.

Three District 9 standouts were picked for the All-State Girls Team, senior Brooke Hinderliter of Redbank Valley for the second time on the Class AA second unit after two years on the third unit, senior LeeAnn Gibson of Karns City on the Class AA third team and sophomore Tori Obenrader of North Clarion on the Class A second team.
