Brazil’s PMDB withdraws from Rousseff’s coalition government

Brazil’s largest political party announced Tuesday that it is pulling out of the ruling party coalition, a step that could pave the way for President Dilma Rousseff’s impeachment.

It’s unclear whether Brazilian Vice President Michel Temer, the party’s president, will resign.

The Brazilian Democratic Movement Party’s decision is just one more blow for Rousseff’s presidency. The Brazilian lower house is in the process of analyzing an impeachment bid launched by Speaker of the House Eduardo Cunha.

The PMDB’s departure from the ruling coalition could leave Rousseff short of allies if impeachment proceedings move forward.
