Nearly 100 ISIS militants killed in Mosul airstrikes, Iraqi army says

Almost 100 ISIS fighters were killed in two days of airstrikes throughout Mosul, according to the Iraqi army.

The Iraqi army tweeted on Sunday that “international airstrikes” targeted key ISIS militants at various locations in the city, including Mosul University.

There were no students inside the university when they were hit, according to the military. They claim that ISIS uses the university’s buildings for training purposes.

CNN confirmed the strikes with two other sources: Someone inside Mosul University and with Athil Al Nujayfi the former governor of the Nineveh Province, in which Mosul is located.

Nujayfi, who maintains a network of contacts and a militia loyal to him inside Mosul, said 17 senior ISIS fighters and numerous local leaders were killed in the strikes, which he called a “blow” to the terror group.

All three sources told CNN that the university is considered a base for ISIS fighters.

Amaq, a media wing of the terror group, published images of what it called “bombings” in Mosul. Videos showed massive and dense plumes of smoke and dust rising toward the sky, bodies of the dead and injured and the rubble of the explosion’s aftermath.
