Stand-off Ends, Cooksburg Man Faces Attempted Homicide and Related Charges

MARIENVILLE – During the morning hours Saturday, troopers of the Pennsylvania State Police responded to a residence along state Route 36 in the Village of Cooksburg, Barnett Township, Jefferson County, for an alleged intoxicated man who was in possession of a gun.

The male was identified as John Macbeth, 47, of Cooksburg, according to state police. Macbeth allegedly refused to speak with troopers and to exit his residence, and an arrest warrant was subsequently obtained for Macbeth.

“The Pennsylvania State Police Special Emergency Response Team (S.E.R.T.) responded to the scene, attempted to serve the arrest warrant, and while doing so, was fired on by Macbeth. No officers were injured in a subsequent exchange of gunfire with the actor,” state police said.

“The area in and around the Village of Cooksburg experienced electrical power outages, and SR 36 was closed in that location until this situation was resolved. On Sunday at approximately 10:20 a.m., Macbeth surrendered to police without incident.”

Macbeth was taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation and treatment of a minor injury, and he will subsequently be arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Gregory Bazylak in Brookville.
