Bruce Springsteen has penned an autobiography and it’s due this fall, according to a statement from his publisher.
Springsteen’s book, titled “Born to Run,” will be released on September 27, according to a statement from Simon & Schuster.
“This is the book we’ve been hoping for,” said Jonathan Karp, publisher of Simon & Schuster, in the statement. “Readers will see their own lives in Bruce Springsteen’s extraordinary story, just as we recognize ourselves in his songs.”
Springsteen, 66, has been working on the book since 2009.
“Writing about yourself is a funny business,” Springsteen says in the book. “But in a project like this, the writer has made one promise, to show the reader his mind. In these pages, I’ve tried to do this.”
Springsteen’s life story has been told by others, though this is the first time he’s done it.
Rock critic Dave Marsh wrote a book, also called “Born to Run,” in 1979, and later merged it with his 1987 biography “Glory Days” and other material into “Two Hearts,” which came out in 2003. And in late 2012, Peter Ames Carlin published the best-selling “Bruce,” a 500-page life story.
Springsteen is a published author, however: In 2014 he published the children’s book “Outlaw Pete,” co-written with Frank Caruso.
The New Jersey musician is currently on tour.
