AMESVILLE – In a rare Saturday afternoon contest the Moshannon Valley Damsels girls basketball squad dumped the Lady Tide of Curwensville, 62-42, in Moshannon Valley League (MVL) play on the Damsels’ home court.
The Moshannon Valley victory was highlighted by Hannah Kitko going over the 1,000 point plateau for her career.
Curwensville, for the second night in a row, made a game of it with another fine effort, only to lose with a second half burst by the Damsels.
The Lady Tide took the first eight minutes 15-12, but had a little letdown in the second quarter as they trailed 34-28, down by six, at the intermission.
The Damsels used a 28-16 second half to pull away for the 20-point win.
Hannah Dixon led the Lady Tide with 16 tallies, while Madison Weber tossed in 13.
Moshannon Valley was paced on offense with 20 points from Kitko and 11 by Emily Kolesar.
In the first game of the Saturday afternoon action it was the Moshannon Valley junior varsity team defeating Curwensville by a score of 38-11.
Madison McCracken and Britney Wagner each scored four points for the Lady Tide JV’s. .
The Lady Tide (2-18) will be home on Tuesday against another MVL opponent in Harmony, with junior varsity action tipping off at 6 pm and the varsity to immediately follow.
Curwensville beat the Lady Owls for its first win of the year in mid-January, at Harmony, 51-38.
Closing out the season, the Lady Tide will play Moshannon Valley again on Wednesday night at home, with a 6 pm JV start.
