Bison Roundballers Hunt Down Bearcats, 92-48

HUNTINGDON – Draining 15 three-point shots in a game should lead to a somewhat convincing win. And for the Clearfield boys basketball team it certainly did, as the Bison went on the road Wednesday night and crushed Huntingdon 92-48 in Mountain League play.

Clearfield made 11 of those treys in the first half alone, helping them to an overwhelming margin of 54-26 at the intermission.

It was the Evan Brown and Will Myers “beyond the arc” show in the first 16 minutes for Clearfield.

Brown netted five of those three’s while Myers had four.

Myers would end up leading the team with six for the game, adding two more in the second half from downtown.

The Bison started the battle with an 8-0 run, then stretched the bulge to 18-4 with 4:26 to go in the opening quarter before ending the first eight minutes leading 32-9.

Huntingdon would add 17 points in the second frame but with Brown and Myers trading three’s, Clearfield tacked on 22 more before the break.

Another 30 points for Clearfield in the third quarter gave Clearfield an 84-45 monster margin heading into the final eight minutes that the Bearcats probably welcomed.

The game ended under the mercy rule for Clearfield and senior Carter Wood hit two free throws with 1:58 remaining to give the Bison 90 points and counting.

Myers led all scorers with 24 points while Brown added 19.

The Bison also got double digits from Tommy Hazel with 14 and Cody Spaid adding 11.

Huntingdon had Jonathan Price with 13 and Taylor Mitchell with 10 to pace the Bearcat attack.

It was a great night as well from the free throw line for Clearfield, connecting on 11 of 12 attempts.

The Bison also defeated the Bearcats in December, 77-64, on Clearfield’s home floor.

Clearfield is now 15-1 overall and 9-0 in Mountain League action.

Huntingdon had its record evened at 7-7 and dropped to 3-5 in the league.

In the junior varsity game Huntingdon came away with a 70-44 victory over the young Bison.

The Bison don’t play again until Tuesday when they entertain visiting Tyrone. The junior varsity contest begins at 6 pm and the varsity will immediately follow.

Clearfield beat the Golden Eagles in Tyrone in December, 59-50
