LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP – The cause of a Lawrence Township fire remains unknown at this time, reported the state police at Clearfield.
According to state police, the fire occurred at 11:24 p.m. Saturday at 1527 Village Rd. It was discovered in an attached carport at the residence by the homeowner. All three residents escaped from the home, and 9-1-1 was contacted to report the fire.
The Hyde Volunteer Fire Company, along with mutual aid companies, responded to a “fully-involved carport.” Also, two vehicles were “fully-involved in fire,” which spread to the residence, state police said.
A Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal Unit was requested to investigate the origin and cause of the fire. It was determined that the fire originated in the engine compartment of one of the vehicles under the carport and quickly spread to another vehicle, the carport and then the residence.
The cause of the engine compartment fire remains unknown at this time, state police said. It was noted by state police that damage was estimated at $200,000, and the homeowner has fire insurance.
