JOHNSONBURG – Searching for their first victory of the season, the Curwensville boys basketball team took to the road Wednesday night, traveling to Johnsonburg to face the 3-5 Rams.
In the end it was the Golden Tide still looking for that elusive first triumph as they fell to Johnsonburg 64-49.
Curwensville put together its best first half the season, leading the Rams 26-23 at the break.
After one quarter the Tide had a 10-9 edge and outscored the Rams 16-14 over the second eight minutes.
Johnsonburg came roaring out of the locker room with a serious purpose to take the game from Curwensville by winning the third quarter 15-6 and then adding a 26-17 margin in the final frame to pull out a victory that was closer than the score indicates.
Jake Terry paced the Curwensville offense with 15 points while Ram Ryan Kilhoffer led all scores with 24 tallies.
Kevin Benson helped the Johnsonburg cause with 10.
A total of 53 foul shots were taken during the battle with the Tide 13 of 23 from the line and Johnsonburg making 16 of 30.
In the junior varsity game it was a win for Curwensville, defeating the Rams by a score of 47-43. Josh Terry had 18 and Nick Stewart 17 in the win for the young Golden Tide.
The Golden Tide, now 0-9 on the year, are at Moshannon Valley for their next game, Friday night, with the JV contest tipping off at 6 pm.
The Black Knight’s defeated the Tide in December, at Curwensville, 79-46.
