U.S. air base in Japan ordered to shelter in place due to ‘security incident’

A U.S. air base in Japan ordered personnel to shelter in place after a security incident Saturday, Yokota Air Base said.

“Yokota Air Base leadership issued a shelter in place in response to a security incident on base as a precaution to protect all base residents,” the base said on Facebook.

No details were released about the nature of the security incident.

“We will push out more information as it becomes available,” the base said.

The base is on the Japanese island of Honshu, 28 miles (45 kilometers) northwest of Tokyo
