Curwensville Wrestlers Have Great Day At Redbank Valley Duals

NEW BETHLEHEM – The Curwensville Area High School wrestling team had a great day at the Redbank Valley Duals on Saturday in New Bethlehem.

The Golden Tide won four of the five dual meets to move its season record to 4-2.

Curwensville started the day with three straight wins, beating Keystone Oaks 45-33, Oswayo Valley 66-17 and Slippery Rock 48-30.

Marion Center put the only blemish on the Tide record Saturday, defeating Curwensville 37-28.

Two forfeits helped Marion Center pick up the win, while the Golden Tide received no forfeits.

Bouncing back, the Tide beat Smethport in their final match of the long day, 45-15.

A happy Tide coach, Dean Swatsworth, spoke afterwards about his squad, saying, “I thought that we wrestled very, very well. We had kids who really stepped up all day long. And it was certainly a confidence builder for our team. After we won the first three bouts I wasn’t sure how we would wrestle after losing to Marion Center. But in our last match with Smethport we reacted well, to get the win, and I was very pleased with that.”

Golden Tide freshman, Blake Passarelli at 113, went 5-0 on the day (two pins) and was awarded the “Joey Garrison Super Man Award.”

Several other Golden Tide matmen had great days as Dylan Myers, at 126 & 132, and Ben Junod, at 182 & 195, each went 5-0. Myers and Junod also each had three pins.

Shae Bloom (152 & 160), James Lee (285), Jordan Peters (145) and Seth Woolcock (120 & 126) all went 4-1.

Curwensville will wrestle West Branch on Tuesday evening at home. The junior high meet begins at 6 pm with the varsity to immediately follow.

WOKW-FM, 102.9, will broadcast the Golden Tide-Warrior match starting with the pre-game at approximately 7:15 pm.
