CLEARFIELD – As part of a statewide Click It or Ticket seatbelt enforcement mobilization, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and local law enforcement agencies in Clearfield County held a media event Monday at Pizza Hut in Clearfield to kick off seatbelt enforcement operations in anticipation of the busy travel periods throughout central Pennsylvania.

During the enforcement initiative through Nov. 30, Pizza Hut representatives will hand out seatbelt safety information for adults and children.

The information given is vital for motorists and passengers traveling during the Thanksgiving holiday, Black Friday shopping and deer season.

The Pizza Hut locations participating, which are owned by ARC Restaurant LLC, are: Mill Hall, Bellefonte, State College, St. Marys, Clearfield, Philipsburg, Brookville, DuBois, Grove City and Clarion.

The Click It or Ticket mobilization includes 350 Pennsylvania law enforcement agencies across the state in an effort to increase seatbelt use and reduce the number of unbelted injuries and deaths.

Each department will dedicate 50 percent of their enforcement time to increase seatbelt use after dark, the time when unbuckled fatalities increase. PennDOT data for 2014 shows that statewide, 383 people who were killed in crashes were not wearing their seat-belts.

The enforcement is made possible by part of PennDOT’s statewide distribution of $3.5 million statewide in federal enforcement funding from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
