Bodies of 7 babies found in German apartment, police say

The bodies of seven babies have been found in a German apartment, police in the state of Bavaria said Friday.

The infants’ remains were discovered Thursday in Wallenfels, a community some 80 miles (130 kilometers) north of Nuremberg and 110 miles south of Leipzig, Bavarian police said on their website.

According to police, a Wallenfels resident found the remains of one baby and called authorities. Police then arrived and found the additional corpses in the same apartment.

No one has been arrested in connection with the deaths. As of Friday morning, Bavarian police said they had not been able to meet the apartment’s most recent occupant, a 45-year-old woman.

Authorities are conducting forensic examinations on the babies’ bodies, some of which are in poor condition. Police said the results of these tests aren’t expected back until early next week.

Wallenfels is a town in the eastern part of Bavaria, the southeastern German state also known as Bayern that borders the Czech Republic and Austria.
