Sweden to implement border controls to stem tide of migrants

Facing a crush of migrants, Sweden will implement temporary border controls for 10 days, the Ministry of Home Affairs said.

Those controls may be extended to 20 days at some point, according to Fredrik Persson, a spokesman for the ministry.

Europe has struggled to cope with its migration crisis.

Repeated attempts to come up with a unified approach have failed.

In all, more than 744,000 migrants have escaped to Europe this year.

More than 218,000 migrants fled across the Mediterranean Sea to Europe in October alone, the U.N. refugee agency said. That’s more than the 216,000 who crossed into Europe in all of 2014.
