Wayne and Yarus Win Gold Pin Titles

Brookville — The District 4 gold pin club gathered for their fall tournament Sunday afternoon at Brookville Lanes with DuBois’ Kalee Wayne and Layton Yarus taking home top honors. 33 club members and guests (22 boys and 11 girls) bowled a three game qualifier before cutting to the top seven in each group.

DuBois’ Ryan Mitskavich led the boys with a 643 series while Cameron Spring of Allegany, NY led the girls with a 526 series. Each received a bowling bag from the Byllye Lanes pro shop and a first round bye in the roll offs. The first round of the roll offs saw Brandon Orsich of Clearfield, Yarus, and Kody Bair of Smethport picking up victories for the boys while Morrigan Decker of Brockport, Jenna Solada of DuBois, and Wayne won on the girls side.

The semi final round saw Orsich take a 194-162 win over Mitskavich while Yarus outdueled Bair 179-170. Spring scored a 179-153 win over Decker while Wayne outscored Solada 200-139.

The finals saw Yarus scoring his first gold pin win by scoring a 194-143 win over Orsich. Orsich’s second place finish was his third in six tournaments to go along with a win last spring. Wayne captured her third straight title with a 188-174 win over Spring. The third place matches saw Mitskavich winning a close 211-209 over Bair while Decker won big over Solada by a 190-135.

Other bowlers competing in the roll offs included Antonio Willar and Dalton Doverspike of DuBois, Zander Koppenhaver of Bradford, Bart Snyder of Olean, NY, Renee Nedza of DuBois, Emily Snyder of Olean, NY, and Brandi Wheatley of Kane.

The 2016 spring tournament will be held in Clearfield with a date to be determined.The district 4 gold pin club consists of bowlers from bowling lanes located in Bradford, Brookville, Clearfield, DuBois, Emporium, Kane, and St. Marys. Boys become members of the club by rolling a 600 series in their respective youth leagues while girls must score a 500 series.
