36 dead, scores injured after fire breaks out at Romanian nightclub

At least 36 people died and 145 were injured when a fire broke out at a nightclub in Bucharest, Romania, late Friday, police said.

The cause of the fire at the Colectiv club is not yet known.

The Romanian metal band Goodbye to Gravity was having an album release event, the group said on its social media pages.

Witnesses told Paul Angelescu, a reporter with Pro TV, that it was very crowded and there were pyrotechnics that sparked the blaze.

The club had only one way in and out, Angelescu said.

Romanian President Klaus Lohannis said he was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news.

“It is a very sad moment for all of us, for our nation and for me personally,” he said in a post to his Facebook page.
