Group behind ‘El Chapo’ escape arrested, Mexican attorney general says

Mexican authorities say they’ve detained a group of people suspected of organizing the escape of fugitive drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman from a maximum-security prison in July. Among them is the cartel kingpin’s brother-in-law.

Mexican Attorney General Arely Gomez told reporters that authorities had dismantled the group that “planned, organized and effected the escape” of Guzman from outside the prison.

Among those detained was Guzman’s brother-in-law, she said, who allegedly organized and supervised the construction of the tunnel Guzman used for his brazen escape.
