2 Chinese diplomats killed in the Philippines

A retired consular official and his wife are suspects in the shooting deaths of two Chinese diplomats at a restaurant in the Philippines on Wednesday, state media reported.

Witnesses told police in Cebu City that gunshots rang out at a restaurant where the Chinese diplomats were having lunch, the state-run Philippines News Agency reported.

Two officials were shot dead, and another Chinese diplomat was wounded, the news agency said.

According to the state news agency, retired consular official Li Qing Liang, 60, and his wife, Gou Jing, 57, are suspects in the shooting.

Authorities found a .45-caliber pistol at the scene and are investigating the motive, PNA reported.

Citing witnesses, CNN affiliate CNN Philippines reported that the shooting erupted at a birthday celebration inside a private lounge at the restaurant.
