STATE COLLEGE – Work to rehabilitate and preserve 31 bridge structures in Centre County will start on Monday, Oct. 5, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
The project will begin on Interstate 99 near the Blair and Centre County line, in the Bald Eagle area. Work will consist of slab repair, concrete curb replacement, and resetting guiderail. Repairs will improve the ride quality and extend the useful life of the bridges.
Drivers will encounter a long term lane restrictions on I-99 with work on the north and southbound travel (right) lanes between Bald Eagle and at the bottom of Skytop Mountain. The closure will then switch to the passing (left) lanes after travel lane work has been completed.
The second portion of this project will take place around the I-99/Route 322 Port Matilda interchange on the east and westbound lanes. PennDOT will issue updates prior to implementing the lane restrictions near the I-99/Route 322 interchange. Each phase of work will take approximately three weeks to complete.
Lane restrictions will be taken down for Penn State home football game weekends. PennDOT reminds motorists to be alert for roadway crews and to proceed with caution through this and all roadway work zone. All work is weather dependent.
This work is part of a $3.6 million project to improve Centre County bridges. Glenn O. Hawbaker of State College is the contractor on the project. Work will continue on this project until mid-November and resume in the spring of 2016.
