Trump: Mitt Romney ‘choked’ in 2012

Donald Trump threw fresh jabs at one of his favorite punching bags on Wednesday, Mitt Romney, telling reporters in New Hampshire that he “choked” and squandered a could-not-lose election in 2012.

Minutes before he fielded questions from everyday voters in the town halls that are part-and-parcel of New Hampshire campaigning, Trump spoke to reporters in a rapid-fire, wide-ranging press conference.

“Mitt Romney let us down. He should’ve won that election. He failed. He choked,” Trump said. “No different than a golfer who misses a putt on the 18th hole.”

Trump also recommitted that he was open to sending ground troops into Iraq to beat back a surging threat posted by ISIS.

Buoyed by a new CNN/ORC poll that shows his lead stable and perhaps even growing, Trump took aim at Republican candidate Jeb Bush — who spoke at his own town hall Wednesday evening mere miles away — as an inept campaigner.

“The only thing constant is Trump,” he said.
