Thursday, Aug. 6
Throwback Thursdays – Shelter
6:30 p.m. – Environmental Education Classroom
A series of Thursday evening programs – each week a different topic following the theme of “primitive skills” will be covered. For this edition of Throwback Thursday, we will learn about making shelter.
Friday, Aug. 7
Souders Trail
6 p.m. – Ball Field
Join us for a peaceful evening walk along the Souders Trail. Participants will learn about the history of the park as we look for remnants of the lumber era and signs of local wildlife. Please wear appropriate footwear and if possible, bring along your binoculars.
Nature Nut – Monarch Butterflies:
8:30 p.m. – Campground Amphitheater
Fridays are nutty this year. Watch John Acorn, the Nature Nut, in a series of video programs that are as entertaining as they are educational. This week’s episode – Monarch butterflies.
Saturday, Aug. 8
Big Trees
10 a.m. Environmental Education Classroom
What makes a tree ‘big’? Whether you are trying to place value on a tree, or trying to score it against others trees, you need to have a consistent way to measure trees. Come learn some methods used to measure and score trees for comparison and value and why this is important, especially if you own big trees.
GPS Basics
2:30 p.m. – Environmental Education Classroom
Learn the basics of how to use a recreational GPS receiver – marking waypoints, navigating, etc. You will be introduced to geocaching as well. We’ll start inside, but will be heading out – so be prepared for the weather.
Camp Cooking
6:30 p.m. – Campground Amphitheater
Hot dogs and mountain pies are good, but will only get you so far along the scale of culinary delight. Learn more creative, and delicious, ways to impress your taste buds while cooking at camp. There will be some samples to try, and recipes to take and try for yourself.
Sunday, Aug. 9
Pennsylvania Black Bears
1 p.m. – Beach House steps
Black bears are remarkable creatures roaming Penn’s Woods. Their adaptations and survival behavior are incredibly interesting. Come learn more about these creatures and understand just what makes them so unique.
A Drop Around the World
2 p.m. – Beach House
Join us for story time. This week’s book is titled, “A Drop Around the World.” See what it may look like in the ‘life’ of a rain drop while we learn about this great resource.
E Parachute Games
3 p.m. – Beach
Learn about the environment (that’s what the ‘E’ is for) while playing some fun parachute games. All ages welcome.
Tea and Talk
7 p.m. – Beach House
Bring your own cup or mug and try some hot sweet fern/mountain mint tea grown right here in the park. Talk subjects are always open for discussion…come with some idea of what you’d like to know more about, learn, or share.
