A “huge explosion” rocked downtown Cairo early Saturday, Egypt’s Al-Ahram state news agency reported.
There has been no report yet of who may be behind the attack.
Egypt’s army has struggled to crush unrest in Sinai, which at times has expanded to mainland cities, including Cairo.
Islamist militants have mainly targeted police and troops, killing hundreds in the last two years.
