GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Right-hander Chad Zurat of Clearfield was effective again in his third start for the Grand Junction Rockies Monday night, working three innings and allowing three hits and one unearned run in an 8-5 win over the Idaho Falls Chukars at Sam Suplizio Field.

Bouncing back from a 25-2 loss to the Chukars Sunday night, the Rockies (8-4) took command with four runs in the fifth inning to remain tied with the Orem Owlz atop the Class A Short-Season Pioneer League’s South.

Zurat, the first of five Grand Junction pitchers, faced 15 batters, striking out two, walking one and hitting one in a stint that began with the thermometer registering 98 degrees.

His earned run average still is 0.00, the best among Pioneer League pitchers who are averaging .8 innings per team game.

Zurat (1-0) has logged 12.1 innings in five appearances with six strikeouts and only one walk. He’s given up 16 hits and five unearned runs.
