Suicide blast kills 2, injures many in Afghanistan’s Helmand province

A suicide car bombing in Afghanistan’s southern Helmand province Tuesday killed two civilians and injured 51 other people, a spokesman for the provincial governor said.

The bomb went off near the police headquarters in Lashkar Gah, the provincial capital, at about 11 a.m. local time, according to the spokesman, Omar Zwak.

One of those killed was a woman, he said, while the injured included women, children and three policemen.

The suicide bomber’s target was the police headquarters, Zwak said, but his explosives-laden vehicle went off before reaching the target.
