BELLEFONTE — The Clearfield American Legion Post 6 baseball team ended a three-game losing streak with season highs in hits and runs for a 7-2 win over Bellefonte at the Governors Park diamond Friday evening.
Curt Collins, Brandon Orsich and Justin Fedder each had two of the Chiefs’ 10 hits, while Logan Lykens drove in two runs.
Collins also was the winning pitcher, working 5-1/3 innings in his second start. He gave up four hits and both Bandit runs, both unearned, but was on the hook for a loss until the Chiefs broke loose for five runs in the sixth inning.
They got to reliever Jeremy Warefield for four hits and were aided by all three Bandit misplays.
Singles by Luzier and Orsich triggered the rally that included run-scoring grounders by Lykens and Reese Wilson and RBI hits by Ty Bender and Fedder.
Clearfield’s lone run before that was a result of Collins’ leadoff double and Marcus Luzier’s sacrifice fly in the first inning as Taylor Butts kept them under control in his five-inning stint.
Bellefonte had gone in front in the fourth after Collins, who had retired 11 of the first 12 batters he faced, issued one of his two walks and hit Adam Kuhn. A Clearfield error and Alex Struble’s single made it 2-1.
The Bandits loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the sixth, but Orsich relieved and whiffed the next two Bandits. He added a third strikeout in the seventh after surrendering two singles.
Lykens had singled home Clearfield’s final run in the top of the last inning.
The Chiefs (2-3) will take on State College at the Bison Sports Complex Monday at 6 p.m.
