Library to Kick Off Summer Reading Program

CLEARFIELD – The Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library’s “Every Hero Has A Story!” summer reading kick-off program is Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. and features a thrilling magic show by M&M Magic.

The kickoff event, sponsored by the Clearfield Legion and the Clearfield VFW, welcomes magicians Bobby and Danny Mehok, two brothers from the DuBois area.

According to their Web site, the duo is an “awesome magical team that’s going to excite your senses and make you gasp in awe.  Combining comedy, electrifying music and illusions, they hit the stage running and the fun never stops.”  Youth of all ages are encouraged to attend this event.

Preschoolers are invited to the library on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. to learn about alphabet at the “Alphabet Heroes and Their Sidekicks” program.  Attendees will play alphabet bingo and a variety of other games while learning about letters at this fun and interactive event.

“Working Together”, is offered for the School Age A & B reading groups, on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Attendees will work together to solve the human knot, navigate mine fields and partner with a spectacular sidekick to build a tower out of marshmallows, spaghetti and more.

The program is a S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) activity and promises to be an entertaining and educational opportunity for all.

Throughout the summer, participants of the Every Hero Has A Story!! reading program, will experience at least one of the five literacies (Basic, Financial, Information, Health, and/or Civic & Social) at all library events as part of the PA Forward | Pennsylvania Libraries initiative.  The PA Forward initiative supports the efforts of libraries across the state as leaders in community education.

The library reminds readers to pick up earned tickets for their minutes read when visiting the library.  The first summer reading prize drawing for two DelGrosso Amusement Park tickets will be held on June 22.

The winner will be notified and posted at the library and on the Facebook page.  To be eligible for the drawing, participants must have tickets in to the library by June 20 at 5 p.m.

The summer reading program is open to all youth ages birth through the completion of fifth grade and all young adults who have completed sixth grade through eleventh grade.  In addition, adults and recent high school graduates may join the adult program.

Registration is available by stopping by the Shaw Public Library during regular business hours.

Shaw Public Library is open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m., and Fridays from 12 p.m. until 5 p.m.
