CLEARFIELD — The Clearfield American Legion Post 6 baseball team’s bats remained quiet again Tuesday evening in a 4-2 Central Penn League loss to Mifflin County at the Lawrence Township Recreation Park Field.
Right-hander Ty Bodtorf limited the Chiefs to three singles, which dropped their average of hits to under five in their 1-3 start.
Aided by a double play on Jon Trimpey’s rope to center field in the second inning, Bodtorf faced the minimum 13 batters before Brandon Orsich broke up his no-no with a one-out liner into right center in the fifth.
Clearfield avoided a shutout on singles by Ty Bender and Reese Wilson and RBI grounders by Thane Morgan and Spencer Herrington in the sixth frame.
Orsich matched Bodtorf’s complete game but surrendered eight hits and two walks while striking out five.
He hit Zack Hostetler on the first pitch of the game, and that turned into a run one out later when Lucas McKay singled through the left side and J.M. Maclay drove in both runners with a sharp single to right field.
Mifflin County added singletons in the second and fourth innings.
Andy Larson and Nate Earnest had two hits apiece for the winners, who are 2-1.
The Chiefs will be at home again Thursday to take on Altoona.
