Police on Sunday shot a man dead and detained two other people outside a Singapore hotel where a high-level security summit was being held, according to a statement from Singapore police.
U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter had been attending the summit on Saturday.
At about 4:30 a.m., the three suspects sped away from a police checkpoint, as police inspected their vehicle’s trunk. “Despite police warnings to stop, the driver continued to crash through police barricades, endangering the lives of the officers,” authorities said in a statement.
Police opened fire to stop the car. One of the detained persons had a substance believed to be drugs, officials said.
