Offices of Kurdish party in Turkey rocked by explosion

An explosion rocked the regional office of a Kurdish political party in Turkey on Monday, injuring six people, according to the party’s press office.

The blast hit the Adana office of the Kurdish People’s Democratic Party, which is known by the initials HDP. Adana is in southeastern Turkey, an area populated by many Kurds.

The statement about the explosion came from the party’s press office in Ankara, the Turkish capital.

In addition, a flash-bang grenade — with a loud sound but no explosion — was detonated at the party’s office Mersin, about 50 miles west of Adana, the press office said.

It is unclear who carried out the attacks. The Turkish government is working to negotiate the end to a long-running Kurdish insurgency.

Turkey is in campaign mode, as the country elects a new parliament on June 7.
