Colombia landslide kills at least 47, official says

At least 47 people were killed after heavy rains caused a landslide Monday in the municipality of Salgar, Colombia, about 60 miles (100 kilometers) southwest of Medellin, according to National Police General Jose Angel Mendoza. Twenty-five people were injured and an undetermined number of people are missing, according to Mendoza.

The landslide also damaged homes and bridges, said Maria Ines Cardona, Columbia’s director of disaster emergency management.

Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said on Twitter that the government is working with emergency services in Salgar and that the affected population will receive “all their support.”
