Colombia landslide kills at least 33, official says

At least 33 people were killed after heavy rains caused a landslide Monday in the municipality of Salgar, about 100 kilometers (60 miles) southwest of Medellin, according to María Ines Cardona, Colombia’s director of disaster emergency management.

The landslide also damaged homes and bridges, she said.

Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said on Twitter that the government is working with emergency services in Salgar and that the affected population will receive “all their support.”
