Death toll from this week’s Nepal earthquake rises above 100

The death toll in Nepal from this week’s magnitude 7.3 earthquake has risen to 96, authorities said Thursday, taking the total number of people killed across the region above 100.

The number of injured stands at more than 2,500, said Nepali Home Ministry spokesman Laxmi Prasad Dhakal.

Seventeen people were reported to have been killed by the quake in India, and one in China, bringing the overall toll to 114.

Nepal was still reeling from the magnitude 7.8 earthquake on April 25 that devastated large areas of the Himalayan nation and killed more than 8,000 people.
