JOHNSTOWN — Freshman pitcher/outfielder Rachel Hoffman (Clearfield Area H.S.) was 4-13 in 17 starts and hit .211 for the first-year Pitt-Johnstown team that saw its final double-header canceled because Gannon qualified for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Playoffs.
The right-hander, who pitched 11 complete games, earned four of the Mountain Cats’ seven wins in 36 games.
Hoffman worked 88 innings in 19 appearances, giving up 136 hits and 95 runs with 32 strikeouts, 38 walks and nine hit batsmen. Her earned run average was 6.36.
She tied for the team lead in appearances and starts and was second in most of the other categories.
At the plate, Hoffman was 15-for-71 with one double, one of the Mountain Cats’ three triples and one home run. She drove in five runs and scored seven.
UPJ was 7-21 in the PSAC West Division.

WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
SHIPPENSBURG — Sophomore Jessica Shomo (Clearfield) led off for Clarion’s 400-yard relay foursome that finished eighth at the 2015 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships in Shippensburg’s Seth Grove Stadium Saturday.
Shomo, Courtney Corban, Anna Pfingstler (DuBois) and Tatiana Cloud were clocked in 48.98 seconds, earning one point for the Golden Eagles. They had placed eighth in Friday’s preliminaries in 48.95 seconds.
Shomo also competed in two individual prelims Friday, tying for 12th among the 24 long jumpers with a leap of 5.24 meters (17 feet, 2½ inches) and placing 16th in the 100-meter dash in 12.88 seconds.
Clarion wound up 12th with 19 points. Shippensburg easily won the 15-team meet with 175 points.

EMMITSBURG, Md. — St. Francis (Pa.) sophomore Rebecca Johnson (Curwensville Area H.S.) broke through the 13-minute barrier in the 3,000-meter steeplechase for the first time Sunday at the Northwest Conference Championships hosted by Mount St. Mary’s.
She crossed the Morgan Track finish line in 12:55.97 to lower her personal record for the third time this season.
