Lady Tide Top Kane 7-1 in First Game; Second Contest Suspended at 4-4

KANE – Amidst light, sometimes heavy rain, clouds and the constant threat of continuing inclement weather, the Curwensville Lady Tide managed to play in a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon and evening in Kane against the Lady Wolves.

When it was all said and done, the Lady Tide picked up a win in game one, 7-1, while game two was suspended due to the weather after three innings, with the score tied at 4-4.

Tide head coach Allen Legiey was uncertain if game two would be resumed at a later date.

In game one Kane jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after the first inning was in the books.

Then, Tide pitcher Rylee Young shut down the home team Lady Wolves over the final six innings as the Curwensville bats came alive in the second stanza.

The Lady Tide scored the tying run in the second and then went ahead for good with three runs in the third inning.

Picking up one tally in each of the final three innings, Curwensville would go to win game one.

Not only did the Lady Tide collect a total of 10 hits in the first game, they were issued five walks and had two hit batsmen.

And to really get things rolling, Curwensville stole 11 bases in game one alone.

Hannah Dixon, Tide shortstop lead the team with three hits, including a double.  Young added two base hits to help her cause in the circle.

Kane shortstop, A. Jordan, had two hits for the Lady Wolves, with one being a double.

GAME 2

The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was called after 3 2/3 innings with the score tied at four each.

Curwensville, the home team in game two, scored two runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning to tie the game but had base runners on first and third with two outs when the heavy rain came and forced the suspension.

As mentioned earlier there is uncertainty if the game will be resumed.

Haley McGarry had the lone hit for the Lady Tide.

Curwensville thrived on seven walks, two hit batsmen and seven stolen bases to be able to stay with Kane.

In the two games the Lady Tide picked up a total of 12 walks, four hit batsmen and stole 18 bases.

That’s right, 18 stolen bases, with Hannah Dixon having seven and Heather Thorp chipping in with five.

Young, in her last four appearances from the circle for Curwensville, has pitched a total of 25 innings with 26 strikeouts, zero walks and no hit batsmen.

Kane in game two was paced on offense by Tunall, Huckabone and Stanisch who all had two hits.  One of the hits for Huckabone was a triple.
