Detour remains in place
BELLEFONTE – Rehabilitation work on a Route 1005 (Forest Avenue) bridge in Marion Township has been extended through May 15.
A detour around the work remains in place. Work began in early April and was expected to last until May 8 but has now been extended to May 15. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s official detour directs drivers to use Routes 26, 550, and 1005.
Crews are working to replace the deck and beams on the bridge, which spans Nittany Creek, just south of the Route 26 intersection. The 19-foot bridge was originally built in 1939 and carries an average of almost 1,400 vehicles daily. Once repairs are complete, PennDOT will be able to remove the bridge from Centre County’s structurally deficient list.
Crews from Centre County PennDOT Maintenance are performing the work which includes replacement of the beams and deck with new concrete plank beams and concrete deck, along with guide rail updates.
