Elk County Catholic Defeats Lady Tide Again, 7-3

CURWENSVILLE – Playing back-to-back games against the Lady Crusaders of Elk County Catholic (ECC) didn’t make a difference in the outcome Wednesday afternoon for the Curwensville Area High School’s girls softball team.

After traveling to St. Marys on Tuesday to battle ECC, in a game the Lady Crusaders won 5-2, ECC came to Curwensville and once again beat the Lady Tide, this time by a score of 7-3.

Curwensville, now 6-5 on the season, has lost three of its last four games.

The Lady Crusaders struck quickly with three runs in the top of the first inning highlighted by a two-run home run by Josie Smith.

ECC added another run in the top of the second before the Lady Tide would strike with two tallies in the bottom of the same inning.

The Lady Tide made it very interesting by scoring a lone run in the bottom of the fourth to trail just 4-3 after four frames.

Unfortunately, it would be the last time the Tide would push a run across home plate.

Elk County Catholic picked up a run in the fifth on a solo home run by Heary and then added two more in the top half of the seventh to seal the victory.

Alaina Stiles had a big day for Curwensville with three hits, including a double. Kayley Harnett and Haley McGarry each had two hits for the Lady Tide with McGarry smacking a double.

Maddy Schneider and Heary each had three hits for the Lady Crusaders while Smith and Meyer each had two.

Schneider, Smith, Heary and Yanak all had doubles for ECC.

Lady Tide head coach Allen Legiey said afterwards, “We hit the ball better tonight against Bauer (Abby) than we did last night (Tuesday), but we still had our opportunities and left a lot of runners on base.”

The Lady Tide (6-5) have a road game in Flinton on Thursday afternoon when they play the Lady Vikings of Glendale in Moshannon Valley League action. Game time is 4:30 pm. The game was originally to be played Friday, May 1, but was recently changed.
